📖 English Meaning

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Jahannam — Hellfire, the intensely blazing Fire prepared for the disbelievers and wrongdoers.
  • Lamaw'iduhum — Their appointed meeting place; the promised destination that awaits them.
  • Ajma'een — All of them together, without exception.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah Almighty declares with absolute certainty that Hellfire is the promised appointment for Iblees (Satan) and all his followers — every single one of them who chose to obey him over their Lord. This is not a mere threat or possibility; it is a decisive decree from the All-Wise, the All-Knowing. The verse follows the mention of the misguided ones who rejected the truth, and it serves as a stern warning that no one who follows the path of Satan will escape this fate.

This promise encompasses all of Satan's adherents — from the first to the last, from the most prominent to the most obscure. They will all be gathered to this dreadful destination, and Hell has seven gates, each one lower and more severe than the other, and each gate has its designated share of followers, apportioned according to the nature and degree of their deeds.

The use of the emphatic particles "inna" and "lam" in the original Arabic underscores the absolute certainty of this promise. It is not something that may or may not happen — it is a firm, unbreakable covenant from Allah that Hellfire will indeed be the final abode of every soul that persisted in disbelief and sin until death.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth. If Hellfire is the promised destination for Satan and his followers, then the path of righteousness leads elsewhere — to the Gardens of Delight. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has not left us without guidance. He has sent messengers, revealed scriptures, and given us the choice. Every moment of this life is an opportunity to turn away from the whispers of Satan and walk the path that leads to eternal bliss. The promise of Hell is real, but so too is the promise of Paradise — and the decision of which destination to meet is placed firmly in your hands. Choose wisely, for the meeting is certain, and the time is now.
