Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Khatbukum (خَطْبُكُمْ): Your matter, affair, or the significant purpose for which you have come. It refers to an important and serious mission.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) received the glad tidings of a son from the angels, his heart was filled with reassurance and joy. He then addressed the angels who had come to him in human form, saying: "What is the matter that has brought you here, O messengers?" He asked this not out of fear or suspicion, but out of a desire to understand the purpose of their visit, especially since they had already delivered the good news. He knew they were sent by Allah with a specific mission, and he wished to know what that mission was, beyond the glad tidings they had already given him.

This question reflects the deep connection between Ibrahim and the angels, and his eagerness to comprehend the divine plan. It also shows his profound respect for the messengers of Allah and his desire to engage with them in a manner befitting their noble station.

Reflection and Da'wah:

This verse teaches us the beautiful character of Prophet Ibrahim — a man of faith who, even in the midst of receiving wonderful news, remained composed and sought to understand the greater purpose of Allah's decree. It reminds us that as believers, we should always approach the events of our lives with curiosity and reflection, asking: "What is the wisdom behind this?" and "What does Allah want from me in this situation?"

Moreover, this verse highlights the importance of hospitality and respectful dialogue. When the angels came to Ibrahim, he welcomed them, served them, and then engaged them in meaningful conversation. This is a timeless lesson for us: to treat guests and visitors with kindness, and to use every interaction as an opportunity to strengthen our faith and understanding.

Let us emulate the example of Ibrahim — a man who never despaired of Allah's mercy, who always sought knowledge, and who submitted wholeheartedly to the will of his Lord. May Allah grant us the same clarity of purpose and depth of faith.
