Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kafaynāka (كَفَيْنَاكَ): We have sufficed you, protected you, and spared you from their harm.
- Al-Mustahzi'īn (الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ): Those who mock, ridicule, and scoff at you and at the revelation you have brought.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse comes as a direct, comforting reassurance from Allah to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at a time when the mockery of the disbelievers was intense and painful. The leaders of Quraysh, who considered themselves the elite of Makkah, did not merely reject the message — they ridiculed it, belittled the Prophet, and scoffed at the Qur'an with arrogance and disdain.
Allah says: "Indeed, We have sufficed you against the mockers." This is a profound promise of divine protection. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who controls all affairs, takes it upon Himself to deal with those who mock His Messenger. The Prophet (peace be upon him) is told: Do not let their words grieve you, do not fear their plots, and do not carry the burden of their hostility — for We, your Lord, will handle them.
These mockers were the ringleaders of disbelief from among the Quraysh — those who had taken partners with Allah from idols and false deities, and who used mockery as a weapon to try to weaken the Prophet's resolve and turn people away from the truth. But Allah's promise was decisive: they would taste the consequences of their actions in this very world before the punishment of the Hereafter. History bears witness that these very individuals were destroyed and humiliated, while the Prophet's mission triumphed and spread across the earth.
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer: when you stand for the truth and face ridicule from those who reject it, know that Allah is with you. He sees every sneer, every sarcastic remark, every attempt to belittle your faith. He has promised to suffice you against them — so place your trust in Him, keep your heart firm, and continue on the path of righteousness without fear. The mockers of today, like those of yesterday, will fade into oblivion, while the word of Allah remains exalted and eternal.
Indeed, this is a beautiful reminder of Allah's care for His righteous servants — that He does not abandon them in the face of hostility, but rather takes their defense upon Himself, turning the plots of the enemies into their own destruction. So take heart, O believer, and let this divine promise fill you with tranquility and unwavering certainty.
