Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Amthal (الأمثال): Likenesses, comparisons, or similitudes. It refers to equating Allah with His creation or attributing to Him any resemblance to created beings.
  • Tadribu (تَضْرِبُوا): Literally means "to strike" or "to set forth." In this context, it means "do not set forth" or "do not make" — i.e., do not draw comparisons.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O mankind, after you have come to know that the idols and false deities you worship are utterly powerless — they can neither benefit nor harm you — do not then set up for Allah any likenesses or comparisons from among His creation. Do not equate the Creator with the created, the Almighty with the weak, the Eternal with the perishable. Allah is unique in His essence, His attributes, and His actions. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

When you attribute partners to Allah in worship, you are, in effect, striking a comparison between the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and the lifeless stones and idols that your own hands have carved. This is the greatest injustice and the deepest ignorance.

Allah knows the reality of His own majesty, glory, and perfection — a knowledge that surpasses all comprehension. He knows that there is absolutely no equivalent, no peer, and no rival to Him. But you, O people, are unaware of this truth. Your limited minds cannot grasp the infinite greatness of your Creator, and so you fall into the error of likening Him to His creation.

Reflect deeply, dear reader: if you truly understood the majesty of the One who created the heavens without pillars, who spread the earth beneath your feet, and who breathed life into your soul — you would never dare to place any of His creatures beside Him in worship. The One who is Al-Khaliq (The Creator) cannot be compared to the makhluq (the created). The One who is Al-Qadir (The All-Powerful) cannot be likened to the weak and helpless.

This verse is a profound call to purify your faith (Tawheed) and to elevate your understanding of Allah's greatness. When you realize that Allah knows all things — while your knowledge is but a drop in the ocean — you will submit to Him with humility and devotion. You will worship Him alone, with sincere hearts, and you will find peace in knowing that your Lord is unlike anything you have ever seen or imagined.

So let this be a reminder: your intellect, however sharp, is limited. But Allah's knowledge encompasses everything. Trust in His wisdom, submit to His commands, and never reduce His majesty to the level of His creation. Indeed, in this pure monotheism lies the key to true success in this life and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 72-76 — An-Nahl

And Allah has made for you from yourselves mates and has made for you from your mates sons and grandchildren and has provided for you from the good things. Then in falsehood do they believe and in the favor of Allah they disbelieve?
And they worship besides Allah that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.
So do not assert similarities to Allah. Indeed, Allah knows and you do not know.
Allah presents an example: a slave [who is] owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allah! But most of them do not know.
And Allah presents an example of two men, one of them dumb and unable to do a thing, while he is a burden to his guardian. Wherever he directs him, he brings no good. Is he equal to one who commands justice, while he is on a straight path?
