Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Salam (السَّلَمَ): Here it means complete submission, surrender, and yielding.
- Yawma'idhin (يَوْمَئِذٍ): On that Day — the Day of Resurrection.
- Dalla (ضَلَّ): Disappeared, vanished, and became lost.
- Yaftaroon (يَفْتَرُونَ): They used to invent and fabricate — referring to their false claims and lies.
Tafsir (Explanation):
On the Day of Resurrection, when the truth becomes undeniable and every soul faces the reality of its deeds, the polytheists — who spent their lives in arrogance, stubbornness, and defiance — will completely surrender to Allah. They will cast aside all pride and submit wholly to His will and judgment, acknowledging His absolute sovereignty with no partner or associate. This is a stark contrast to their behavior in the worldly life, where they turned away from the truth and refused to bow to their Creator.
At that very moment, everything they used to fabricate will vanish and prove utterly false. Their invented claims — that their idols, so-called "partners" of Allah, would intercede for them, protect them, or bring them closer to Allah — will all disappear like mirages in the desert. Those false deities will not be able to help them in the slightest, nor will any of their invented excuses or imagined intercessors come to their rescue. The lies they built their lives upon will crumble to dust, leaving them with nothing but regret and loss.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every human being. Why wait until the Day when surrender is forced and no longer optional? Why not submit to Allah willingly, with love and sincerity, while we still have the chance? The believer who bows to Allah in this life — in prayer, in obedience, and in trust — will find peace and honor both here and in the Hereafter. But those who delay their submission until the Day when all excuses fail will find that their surrender brings them no benefit.
The beautiful message of Islam is that Allah accepts His servants' repentance and submission at any moment before death. He is Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem — the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. So do not be like those who waited until it was too late. Come to Allah now, willingly and joyfully, and experience the true peace that comes from knowing your Lord. The false gods of this world — wealth, status, desires, or any imagined intercessors — will all fail you one day. Only Allah remains, and only submission to Him brings lasting success.
