Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ʿIbādī (My servants): refers to Allah’s sincere, devoted servants who are purified in faith and obedience.
- Sulṭān (authority/power): means any influence, control, or ability to mislead and overcome.
- Wakīlan (Guardian/Trustee): one who protects, manages affairs, and suffices as a supporter.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah addresses Iblis (Satan) directly, declaring a decisive boundary: “Indeed, My servants—you have no authority over them.” These are the believers who have sincerely devoted themselves to Allah, acting upon His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. Their faith is not superficial; it is a deep, rooted conviction that shields them from Satan’s whispers and schemes. Allah makes it clear that Satan’s power is limited—he may tempt, deceive, and call, but he cannot overpower those whom Allah has protected through their own sincere reliance on Him.
The verse continues: “And sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian.” This is a profound reassurance to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to every believer: Allah alone is enough as a protector and caretaker. When a servant places their trust in Allah, entrusting all their affairs to Him, then no force—neither Satan nor any of his allies—can truly harm them. Allah defends His sincere servants, repelling the evil of Satan from them, and grants them steadfastness in times of trial.
This verse also carries a beautiful promise: the path of faith is not a lonely struggle, for Allah Himself is the guardian of those who believe. He does not leave them to face the whispers of Shaytan alone; rather, He equips them with light, guidance, and the strength to resist. The believer’s weapon is their sincerity (ikhlāṣ) and their trust (tawakkul) in Allah, and with that, they are invincible against the snares of the enemy.
Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a source of immense hope and empowerment. It tells you that no matter how strong the whispers of doubt, despair, or sin may feel, they have no real power over you if you are a true servant of Allah. Satan is a loud enemy, but his authority is only over those who choose to follow him. When you turn to Allah with a sincere heart, He becomes your shield, your protector, and your sufficiency. So, strengthen your connection with your Lord, rely on Him in every matter, and you will find that His protection is greater than any challenge you face. Islam is not a religion of fear—it is a religion of trust, security, and victory for those who believe. Let this verse ignite in your heart the confidence that with Allah, you are never alone, and His guardianship is more than enough.
