Word Meanings:

  • Mukhlasan (مُخْلَصًا): Chosen, purified, and singled out by Allah for His special favor and mission.
  • Rasulan (رَسُولًا): A messenger sent with a new law or scripture to convey to his people.
  • Nabiyyan (نَبِيًّا): A prophet who receives revelation from Allah, even if not necessarily with a new law.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah addresses His beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a divine command: "And mention in the Book [the story of] Moses." This is a call to recite and reflect upon the story of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) as it is revealed in the Qur'an — a story filled with lessons of patience, courage, and unwavering faith.

Allah then describes Moses with two magnificent qualities: "Indeed, he was chosen" — meaning that Allah had selected him, purified his soul, and honored him above many of his contemporaries. He was not merely a righteous man; he was specially elected by Allah for a great mission. This selection was not random — it came after years of trials, sincerity, and steadfastness in the face of adversity.

The verse continues: "and he was a messenger and a prophet." This combination is significant. A *Nabi* (prophet) is one who receives divine revelation, while a *Rasul* (messenger) is one who is commanded to convey that revelation to the people. Moses combined both roles — he received direct revelation from Allah and was tasked with delivering it to the Children of Israel, calling them to monotheism and the worship of Allah alone. He was also one of the five great messengers of strong will (Ulu al-Azm), who faced immense trials with patience and perseverance.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us the honor that Allah bestows upon those who dedicate themselves wholly to Him. Moses was not a man of privilege in the worldly sense — he grew up in the palace of Pharaoh, yet he chose the path of truth and sacrifice. His sincerity and devotion earned him the title of "chosen" by Allah Himself.

For us as believers, this is a profound reminder: true honor lies not in wealth, status, or lineage, but in being *mukhlas* — sincere and devoted to Allah. When we purify our intentions and dedicate our lives to His service, Allah elevates us in ways we cannot imagine. The story of Moses encourages us to stand firm in our faith, to speak the truth even before tyrants, and to trust that Allah's selection and support are greater than any worldly power.

Let us reflect on our own lives: Are we striving to be among those whom Allah chooses for His nearness? The door is open for every sincere servant who turns to Him with a pure heart.

📜 Verse 49-53 — Maryam

So when he had left them and those they worshipped other than Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet.
And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor.
And mention in the Book, Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.
And We called him from the side of the mount at [his] right and brought him near, confiding [to him].
And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet.
