Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Lisan Sidq" (لسان صدق): A truthful tongue, meaning a noble reputation and honorable mention among people.
- "Aliyyan" (عليًا): High, elevated, lofty — referring to a praise that is exalted and enduring.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this blessed verse, Allah speaks of His immense favors upon His chosen prophets — Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya'qub (peace be upon them) — after mentioning their sincerity, patience, and devotion. Allah says: "And We bestowed upon them from Our mercy, and We made for them a truthful and lofty tongue."
This means that Allah, out of His boundless mercy and grace, granted them abundant goodness, blessings, and provisions in this worldly life, in addition to the great honor of prophethood. They were given families, wealth, and comfort as part of Allah's mercy — yet the greatest of these gifts was the second one mentioned: a lasting, elevated reputation of truthfulness and virtue.
The phrase "a truthful and lofty tongue" signifies that Allah made their remembrance beautiful and their praise widespread among all nations and peoples. People of every faith and background speak well of them, honor them, and acknowledge their noble character. Their names are raised high, their stories are told with reverence, and their legacy of faith continues to inspire generations. This is a gift greater than any worldly treasure — for wealth fades, but a good name and righteous legacy endure forever.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: the greatest reward for sincerity and devotion to Allah is not merely material abundance, but a lasting, honorable mention in the hearts of people. When you dedicate your life to Allah, He grants you a legacy that transcends time. The prophets did not seek fame or praise — they sought Allah's pleasure alone — yet Allah honored them with the most beautiful remembrance. This teaches us that true success lies in pleasing Allah, and when we do so, He elevates our name in ways we could never imagine. Let this inspire you to live a life of sincerity, patience, and truthfulness, trusting that Allah will grant you a noble mention in this world and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. For the believer who is forgotten by people is never forgotten by Allah, and the one who is remembered by Allah is truly exalted.
