Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Jibal (الْجِبَالِ): The mountains — the firm, massive landforms anchored in the earth.
- Yansifuha (يَنسِفُهَا): He will crush, shatter, and scatter them completely — uprooting them from their bases.
- Nasfan (نَسْفًا): A total, thorough demolition — reducing them to fine, dispersed dust.
Tafsir (Explanation):
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked about the fate of the mountains on the Day of Judgment — those towering, unshakable structures that seem eternal to the human eye. So Allah instructed him to answer: "My Lord will crush them into scattered particles." This means that Allah, the Almighty, will uproot the mountains entirely from their foundations, shatter them into pieces, and then blow them away like fine dust — leaving the earth completely level and smooth, with no elevation or depression. What appears to be immovable and permanent in this world will become nothing more than floating particles on that Day, demonstrating that no power, no matter how immense, can withstand the command of its Creator. The mountains, which humans rely on for stability and protection, will be utterly obliterated by a single act of divine will — a vivid reminder that all worldly strength and grandeur is transient, and only Allah's power endures forever.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse invites every believer to reflect deeply on the nature of this world. The mountains — symbols of strength, permanence, and refuge — will be reduced to nothing in the blink of an eye when Allah wills it. So what of our own concerns, our worries about status, wealth, or reputation? If the mightiest creations cannot stand before Allah's command, how much more should we humble ourselves before Him and place our trust in Him alone? Let this truth fill your heart with awe of Allah's majesty, and with hope — for the same Power that obliterates mountains is the Power that answers your prayers, forgives your sins, and grants you Paradise. So turn to Him sincerely, for He is the One who holds all things in His grasp, and His mercy is greater than any trial you face.
