Word Meanings:

  • "Hum ulaa'i" — "They are here" or "these ones," referring to those close by.
  • "'Ala athari" — "On my track/footsteps," meaning they are following right behind him.
  • "'Ajiltu ilayka" — "I hastened to You," indicating speed and eagerness in coming.
  • "Li tardha" — "So that You may be pleased," expressing the ultimate goal of seeking Allah's satisfaction.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah tells us of the conversation between Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) and his Lord. When Allah asked him why he had come hastily to the appointed meeting at Mount Tur, leaving his people behind, Musa replied with complete honesty and devotion: "They are right here, close behind me, following in my footsteps. I did not leave them far behind — they will catch up with me shortly. And I hastened to You, my Lord, so that You may be pleased with me."

This response reveals the depth of Musa's love for his Creator. He did not make excuses or delay. Rather, he explained that his people were near, and his swiftness was not out of neglect for them, but out of eagerness to fulfill the command of Allah and to earn His good pleasure. The Prophet Musa understood that racing towards obedience and responding quickly to the call of Allah is a means of drawing closer to Him and attaining His love and satisfaction.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This beautiful verse teaches us a profound lesson about the priority of the Hereafter and the joy of obedience. Imagine the scene: the Prophet of Allah, rushing to meet his Lord, his heart filled with longing and his feet quick with love. He did not wait for others to move first; he took the lead in goodness. This is the spirit of a true believer — one who does not procrastinate in good deeds, who does not wait for perfect conditions, but who hastens towards Allah's pleasure with sincerity and zeal.

Dear reader, ask yourself: When Allah calls you to prayer, to charity, to kindness, to repentance — do you hasten? Or do you delay? The pleasure of Allah is the greatest treasure, and the path to it is paved with swift steps of obedience. Let us learn from Musa (peace be upon him) that true love for Allah is shown not in words alone, but in the speed of our response to His commands. May Allah make us among those who race towards His pleasure and who find joy in His service.

📜 Verse 82-86 — Taha

But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
[Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?"
He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased."
[Allah] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Samiri has led them astray."
So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"
