Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Jasadan (جَسَدًا): A physical body or form.
  • La ya'kuluna al-ta'am (لَا يَأْكُلُونَ الطَّعَامَ): Who do not eat food.
  • Khalidin (خَالِدِينَ): Immortal, living forever without death.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah addresses a doubt raised by the disbelievers against the Prophets. They wondered: "How can a human being, who eats and drinks like us, be a messenger from God?" In response, Allah clarifies that He never sent messengers as mere bodies devoid of human needs, nor did He make them immortal in this world. Rather, all the Prophets—peace be upon them—were human beings who ate, drank, walked in the markets, and lived among their people. They experienced hunger, thirst, joy, and sorrow, just like any other person. This was not a flaw in their mission; on the contrary, it was a divine wisdom. By being human, they could relate to their communities, understand their struggles, and serve as living examples of how to worship Allah while engaging fully in worldly life.

Moreover, Allah states that these messengers were not immortal. They lived, fulfilled their missions, and then passed away, just as all humans do. This is a profound reminder that prophethood does not grant exemption from the natural laws of human existence. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, like all previous messengers, was mortal, and his death was a testament to the truth that he was a human servant chosen by Allah—not an angel or a deity.

This verse also carries a beautiful lesson for us: the greatest of Allah's creation—the Prophets—were humble in their humanity. They did not claim divinity, nor did they seek to be above the basic needs of life. Instead, they embraced their human nature as a means of drawing closer to Allah and guiding others. For us, this is an invitation to appreciate the balance between our spiritual duties and our worldly lives. We are not required to abandon the world to be righteous; rather, we are called to live in it with sincerity, gratitude, and devotion, following the noble example of the Prophets.

Furthermore, the mortality of the Prophets reminds us of the transient nature of this world. No matter how great a person becomes, death is an inevitable reality. This should inspire us to focus on what truly matters: our relationship with Allah, our good deeds, and our preparation for the eternal life to come. The Prophets, despite their lofty status, were not spared from death—so how can we, as ordinary believers, afford to neglect our purpose? Let us take heed and strive to follow their path of patience, perseverance, and unwavering faith, knowing that the ultimate reward is with Allah, the Ever-Living, Who never dies.

📜 Verse 6-10 — Al-Anbiya

Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe?
And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know.
And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth].
Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.
We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Then will you not reason?
