Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Rijālan (رِجَالًا): Men, human beings—not angels.
  • Nūḥī ilayhim (نُوحِي إِلَيْهِمْ): We reveal to them (divine revelation).
  • Ahla al-Dhikr (أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ): People of knowledge and remembrance—specifically, the scholars of the previous scriptures (the Torah and the Gospel).

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, Allah reassures you and silences the doubts of those who question your prophethood. Throughout history, Allah never sent angels as messengers to guide humanity—rather, He always chose human beings, men of flesh and blood, from among their own people, and granted them divine revelation. This was the unbroken pattern of His wisdom: messengers who could be seen, heard, and understood by their communities, living among them as relatable guides.

The verse then turns to the disbelievers of Makkah who found it strange that a human being should receive revelation. Allah tells them: If you are truly uncertain about this, then go and ask the learned people of the earlier scriptures—the Jews and Christians who received the Torah and the Gospel. They will confirm to you that all the prophets before Muhammad (peace be upon him) were also human beings, not angels. Their own books testify to this truth.

This is a profound invitation to humility and inquiry. It encourages those who lack knowledge to seek it from those who possess it, rather than rejecting what they do not understand. It also affirms the noble status of humanity: Allah chose human beings to carry His message, honoring them with the highest trust.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, this verse carries a beautiful lesson for all of us. Allah’s messengers were human—they ate, walked in the markets, faced hardship, and experienced joy—so that we could follow their example in every aspect of life. If a messenger were an angel, how could we imitate his worship, his patience, or his dealings with people? But because they were human, their lives become a living blueprint for ours.

And notice the gentle wisdom in Allah’s words: “Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.” This is an open door for every seeker of truth. Islam does not fear questions; it welcomes them. It directs you to reliable sources, to those who have studied the divine books, so that your faith is built on certainty, not blind imitation.

So, if you ever wonder about the truth of Islam, do not let doubt stop you—let it drive you to seek knowledge. Ask, investigate, and you will find that the Qur’an’s message is consistent with all that came before it, and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final link in a long chain of human prophets chosen by Allah to guide humanity to the straight path. May Allah open your heart to this truth and grant you the wisdom to recognize it.

📜 Verse 5-9 — Al-Anbiya

But they say, "[The revelation is but] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."
Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe?
And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know.
And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth].
Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors.
