Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "أُولَٰئِكَ" (Ulaa'ika): "Those" — referring to the believers described in the preceding verses.
  • "هُمُ" (Hum): "They" — emphasizing exclusivity and certainty.
  • "الْوَارِثُونَ" (Al-Waarithoon): "The inheritors" — those who will receive the inheritance of Paradise.

Tafsir (Explanation):

After describing the magnificent qualities of true believers — those who pray with humility, turn away from idle talk, give Zakat, guard their chastity, and honor their trusts and covenants — Allah now declares their ultimate reward with absolute certainty: "Those — they are the inheritors."

This verse refers to the believers who embody the characteristics mentioned in the preceding verses (23:1-9). They are the ones who will inherit Paradise on the Day of Judgment. The inheritance here is not just any inheritance — it is the inheritance of the highest abode, the Gardens of Delight, which they will enter as a reward for their faith and righteous deeds.

Scholars have noted that this inheritance is specifically from the dwellings of the disbelievers in Paradise — meaning that the believers will take possession of the places that the disbelievers would have occupied had they believed, but which they forfeited through their rejection of the truth. This is a profound demonstration of Allah's justice and generosity: the believers receive what the disbelievers lost.

The use of the word "inheritors" (وارثون) is significant. An inheritance is something received without toil or payment — it is a gift. Yet, in this case, the believers have earned it through their sincere faith and righteous actions. It is both a reward for their efforts and a pure favor from Allah's boundless mercy.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, contemplate this divine promise! Allah has not left you without hope or direction. He has clearly described the path to Paradise and the qualities that lead to it. The believers described in these verses are not angels — they are human beings like you and me, who struggled, prayed, and strove to please their Lord. If they could attain this noble inheritance, so can you!

The door of repentance is always open, and the mercy of Allah is vast beyond measure. Strive to embody these beautiful qualities in your daily life: pray with presence of heart, guard your tongue from vain speech, purify your wealth through charity, protect your chastity, and fulfill your promises. By doing so, you too can be among those whom Allah calls "the inheritors."

Let this verse fill your heart with hope and motivation. Paradise is real, and it is waiting for those who believe and do righteous deeds. Do not let the distractions of this world deprive you of the eternal inheritance that awaits the faithful. May Allah make us among those who inherit the highest gardens of Paradise. Ameen.
