Word Meanings:
- الطَّيِّبَاتِ (At-Tayyibat): The pure, wholesome, and lawful provisions that are good and beneficial.
- صَالِحًا (Salihan): Righteous deeds that are in accordance with Allah’s commands and the teachings of the divine law.
- عَلِيمٌ (Alim): All-Knowing; nothing escapes His knowledge.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messengers of Allah, eat from the pure and lawful sustenance that Allah has provided for you, and perform righteous deeds that align with His will. Indeed, Allah is fully aware of all that you do—nothing is hidden from Him, whether great or small, open or secret. This address, though directed at the Messengers, carries a universal lesson for all believers: the foundation of righteous action is pure and lawful sustenance. Just as a building cannot stand without a solid foundation, righteous deeds cannot flourish when built upon what is unlawful or impure. The verse beautifully links the physical act of eating with spiritual growth, showing that what enters the body affects the soul’s capacity for goodness. Furthermore, it reassures the believer that Allah’s knowledge encompasses every deed, and He will reward each person according to their intentions and actions.
A Call to the Believers:
Dear believer, reflect on this divine instruction! Allah, in His infinite mercy, has made clear to you the path to success: consume what is lawful and pure, and let your actions be righteous. When you purify your sustenance, your heart becomes receptive to guidance, your prayers are answered, and your deeds are elevated. Beware of the unlawful, for it darkens the heart and blocks the acceptance of supplication. Strive, then, to seek halal earnings and pure food, and let your deeds be a reflection of your faith. Allah is watching over you with perfect knowledge—so let this awareness fill you with hope, for He rewards even the smallest good deed, and with awe, for He sees all that you do. Embrace this beautiful guidance and make it the compass of your daily life, and you will find peace in this world and success in the Hereafter.
