Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Rabbi (My Lord): The address of a servant to his Creator, acknowledging His absolute Lordship and sovereignty.
  • Immā turiyannī (If You show me): A conditional supplication expressing the Prophet's submission to Allah's will and timing.
  • Mā yūʿadūn (What they are promised): The punishment and divine retribution that Allah has promised the disbelievers in this world and the Hereafter.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah instructs His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to make a profound supplication, teaching him and the believers the proper attitude when facing the threats and arrogance of the disbelievers. The Prophet is commanded to say: "My Lord, if You show me what they have been promised" — meaning the punishment, destruction, and divine retribution that Allah has decreed for those who reject the truth and oppose His messengers.

This is not a demand for haste or an expression of impatience, but rather a declaration of complete trust in Allah's promise and His perfect timing. The Prophet acknowledges that the punishment of the disbelievers is certain — it is only a matter of when Allah chooses to bring it to pass. By making this supplication, the believer affirms that victory belongs to Allah and His righteous servants, and that the schemes of the wicked will ultimately fail.

The verse carries a deep lesson in patience and reliance on Allah. When the believer faces oppression, mockery, or threats from those who oppose the truth, he should not despair or seek revenge on his own. Instead, he turns to Allah with humility, placing the matter entirely in His hands. This is the essence of true servitude — recognizing that Allah alone controls the outcome of all affairs, and that His promise of justice is inevitable.

This supplication also reflects the noble character of the Prophet, who did not curse his people or wish for their destruction out of personal anger, but rather submitted to Allah's wisdom. It teaches us that even in the face of severe opposition, the believer's response should be one of dignified prayer and unwavering faith, not panic or despair. The promise of Allah is true, and His justice will prevail — whether in this world or in the Hereafter, where every soul will be recompensed for what it has earned.

As believers, we are reminded that our role is to convey the message with sincerity and patience, while leaving the outcome to Allah. The punishment of the wrongdoers is not our concern to execute; it is Allah's promise, and He never breaks His promise. This verse instills hope in the hearts of the believers that no matter how powerful the forces of falsehood may appear, they are destined for destruction, and the truth will ultimately triumph.

📜 Verse 91-95 — Al-Mu'minun

Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him].
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
And indeed, We are able to show you what We have promised them.
