Word Meanings:

  • Al-Ghayb (الْغَيْبِ): That which is hidden from the senses and unseen by creation—matters of the past, present, and future that no creature can perceive on its own.
  • Al-Shahādah (الشَّهَادَةِ): That which is witnessed and perceived—the visible, tangible world that creatures can observe through their senses.
  • Fatāʿālā (فَتَعَالَىٰ): Exalted and far above—indicating Allah’s absolute transcendence and purity from any imperfection or deficiency.
  • Yushrikūn (يُشْرِكُونَ): The act of associating partners with Allah in worship, such as idols, false deities, or any created being.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse concludes a series of profound descriptions of Allah’s nature, emphasizing His absolute knowledge and supreme majesty. Allah declares Himself to be the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed—meaning that nothing escapes His awareness. He knows every secret hidden in the depths of hearts, every event concealed behind the veils of time, and every movement in the unseen realms that no eye has ever seen. At the same time, He is fully aware of all that is visible and apparent—every action, every word, and every thought that unfolds in the open world. Neither the whisper of a soul nor the fall of a leaf is hidden from Him.

This dual attribute—knowledge of both the hidden and the visible—is a hallmark of true divinity. A being who lacks knowledge of the unseen cannot be a god, and a being who is ignorant of the visible world is even less worthy of worship. Yet Allah encompasses all things in His knowledge, from the greatest to the smallest, from the eternal to the momentary.

Then the verse proclaims: "So exalted is He above what they associate [with Him]" —meaning that Allah is far removed, infinitely pure, and utterly transcendent above the false partners that the polytheists invent. How could anyone compare a created idol—carved by human hands, unable to hear or see, incapable of benefit or harm—to the Lord of the heavens and the earth? How could anyone equate a powerless statue with the One who knows every secret of the universe?

This verse is a powerful reminder of Allah’s perfection and a call to purify our hearts from any form of shirk—whether in worship, in reliance, or in love. When we truly grasp that Allah alone knows the unseen and the witnessed, our trust in Him deepens, our dependence on Him becomes complete, and our hearts find rest in His absolute sovereignty.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this magnificent truth: the One who created you knows you completely—your hidden struggles, your silent prayers, your unspoken fears, and your deepest hopes. He sees what no one else sees and knows what no one else knows. So why turn to anyone else? Why place your trust in creation when the Creator is fully aware of every detail of your life?

This verse invites you to a life of pure monotheism—a life where your heart is attached only to Allah, who is never unaware of you for even the blink of an eye. When you realize that He knows the unseen and the witnessed, you will find peace in supplication, comfort in reliance, and strength in knowing that your Lord is always with you, always aware, and always capable.

Let this knowledge transform your worship: pray with the certainty that He hears you, repent with the confidence that He sees your sincerity, and live with the awareness that every hidden deed is recorded by the One who misses nothing. This is the beauty of Islam—a direct connection to a Lord who is both transcendent in His majesty and intimate in His knowledge of His servants.

📜 Verse 90-94 — Al-Mu'minun

Rather, We have brought them the truth, and indeed they are liars.
Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him].
[He is] Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, so high is He above what they associate [with Him].
Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord, if You should show me that which they are promised,
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
