Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Thubūr (ثُبُورًا): Complete destruction, ruin, or utter perdition. It refers to calling out for one's own annihilation as a release from unbearable suffering.
- Wāḥid (وَاحِدًا): One single time.
- Kathīr (كَثِيرًا): Many times, repeatedly, or in abundance.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when the disbelievers are cast into the blazing Fire and taste its overwhelming torment, they will cry out in desperation, begging for their own destruction—calling for death and annihilation as a means of escape from their agony.
But they will be met with a crushing rebuke: "Do not call today for one destruction—call for many destructions!" This is not a command of mercy, but a statement of utter hopelessness. Their suffering is so immense, so multi-layered, and so continuous that a single cry for annihilation would never be enough. Every moment brings new forms of punishment, each one more severe than the last. Their punishment is not a single event that ends—it is an eternal, ever-renewing reality.
Even if they were to call for destruction a thousand times, they would never be answered. There is no escape, no relief, no end. The doors of mercy are sealed shut for them, and they will remain in that painful chastisement forever.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the weight of this verse. The One who warns us of this reality is the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. He does not tell us this to frighten us without purpose—He tells us so that we may turn back to Him before it is too late.
Today, in this worldly life, the door of repentance is wide open. Every sin can be forgiven, every mistake can be erased, and every heart can be purified. But on that Day, when the Fire is blazing and the souls are screaming for destruction, there will be no second chances.
Do not wait until you hear those words directed at you. Run to your Lord now, with a sincere heart, and let your tears of repentance flow. The same tongue that could have been used to remember Allah and seek His forgiveness will either be a witness for you or against you. Choose today what you wish to hear tomorrow: the call of mercy or the call of despair.
Indeed, Allah's mercy surpasses His wrath, and His door of forgiveness remains open until the final moment of your life. Do not let the whispers of Shaytan convince you that you are too far gone. Return to your Lord—He is waiting for you with open arms.
