Word Meanings:

  • Fa'tiya (فَأْتِيَا): Go forth, both of you, to...
  • Fir'awn (فِرْعَوْنَ): Pharaoh, the tyrannical king of Egypt who claimed divinity.
  • Rasūl (رَسُولُ): A messenger sent with a divine mission. Note: The singular form is used here, referring primarily to Moses (peace be upon him), with Aaron as his supporter and partner in the mission.
  • Rabb al-'Ālamīn (رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ): The Lord of all worlds—the Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign of everything that exists.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) reassured His Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) that Pharaoh would not be able to kill him, and after answering his supplication by appointing his brother Aaron as a helper and companion in the mission, Allah commanded them both: "Go forth to Pharaoh, both of you, and say to him: 'Indeed, we are the messengers of the Lord of all the worlds.'"

This is a direct, clear, and powerful declaration of their prophetic identity. They were not sent by any earthly king or authority, but by the Lord of all creation—the One who created Pharaoh himself, his throne, his armies, and everything he possessed. The use of the singular "messenger" (rasūl) rather than the dual form highlights that Moses was the primary prophet and leader of this mission, while Aaron was his supporter and partner in conveying the message.

The command to approach Pharaoh directly, despite his arrogance and tyranny, demonstrates the courage and confidence that comes with true faith. The messengers of Allah do not fear the power of tyrants, for they know that the One who sent them is the Most Powerful of all. This verse also shows the beautiful brotherhood and cooperation between Moses and Aaron—a model of unity and mutual support in calling to the truth.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this moment! Two men, armed only with the truth and the support of their Lord, stand before the mightiest tyrant of their time. They do not tremble, they do not flatter, and they do not compromise. They simply declare: "We are the messengers of the Lord of all the worlds." This is the essence of true faith—knowing that Allah is with you, and that no power on earth can overcome the one who relies on Him.

This verse teaches us that the message of Islam is not limited to a particular people or era. It is a universal call to submit to the One True God, the Lord of all worlds. Just as Moses and Aaron carried this message to Pharaoh, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) carried it to all of humanity, and we, as his followers, are entrusted with conveying it with wisdom and beautiful preaching.

Let this verse inspire you to stand firm in your faith, to speak the truth with confidence, and to trust in Allah's support in every situation. Remember that when you call people to Allah—whether through your words, your character, or your actions—you are continuing the mission of the prophets. And know that Allah, the Lord of all worlds, is always with those who strive in His cause.
