Word Meanings:

  • Kallā (كَلَّا): A strong Arabic particle of negation and rebuke, meaning "Absolutely not" or "No, indeed." It dismisses the fear entirely.
  • Āyātinā (بِآيَاتِنَا): Our signs, miracles, and proofs that demonstrate the truth of your message.
  • Mustami‘ūn (مُسْتَمِعُونَ): Listening, hearing attentively — indicating Allah's full awareness and presence.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah responds to Prophet Musa (Moses) peace be upon him after he expressed his fear that Pharaoh and his chiefs might kill him, and after he asked for his brother Harun (Aaron) to accompany him as a supporter. Allah said: "Kallā" — Absolutely not! They will not be able to kill you, for I have already answered your prayer and granted you Harun as your helper. So go forth, both of you, with My signs and miracles that prove your truthfulness and My divine support. I am with you both — hearing everything you say and everything that is said to you. Nothing escapes My knowledge, and My protection and victory are guaranteed for you.

Then the command continues: go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Indeed, we are messengers sent by the Lord of all the worlds, commanding you to let the Children of Israel go with us." This was the beginning of the great confrontation between truth and falsehood, between the messenger of Allah and the tyrant of Egypt.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson of divine reassurance for every believer who fears standing up for the truth. When Allah commands you to do something, He does not abandon you — He is with you, hearing and seeing all, protecting and supporting you. The fear that Musa felt was natural, but Allah replaced it with certainty and courage. Just as He said to Musa and Harun, "I am with you, listening," He says to every believer who strives in His cause: I am with you. So never let the power of tyrants frighten you, for the power of Allah is above all powers. When you carry the message of truth, you carry with it the guarantee of divine victory — whether in this world or in the Hereafter. Trust in Allah, move forward with confidence, and know that your Lord hears every word you speak and every word spoken against you. He is the Best of Protectors and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

13وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَارُونَ
And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron.
14وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ
And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me."
