Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) continues his response to Pharaoh, addressing the accusation Pharaoh had raised about Moses killing an Egyptian man before his prophethood. Moses clarifies the sequence of events with honesty and humility: "I committed that act before the revelation came to me, when I was not yet a prophet. I fled from you out of fear for my life, fearing that you would kill me in retaliation for what I had done unintentionally."
Then Moses turns the narrative toward the divine mercy that followed: "But my Lord, in His infinite grace and favor, did not abandon me in that state of fear and exile. Instead, He blessed me with wisdom, understanding, and prophethood, and He chose me to be among His messengers sent to guide humanity."
This verse beautifully illustrates the transformative power of Allah's mercy. Moses was a fugitive, fleeing for his life, with no apparent resources or status. Yet, in that moment of vulnerability, Allah elevated him to the highest rank a human can attain—that of a messenger of God. This teaches us that no matter how difficult our circumstances may be, Allah's mercy and favor can lift us to unimaginable heights. A person's past mistakes, when followed by sincere repentance and trust in Allah, do not define their future. Allah forgives, elevates, and honors whom He wills.
The verse also carries a profound lesson about the nature of true leadership and authority. Pharaoh boasted of his power and wealth, yet Moses, who had nothing but Allah's support, was granted a station far greater than any earthly king. This reminds every believer that true honor lies not in worldly status but in being chosen by Allah for His service. As Muslims, we should never despair over our past errors or current hardships—rather, we should turn to Allah with sincerity, knowing that He can transform our trials into blessings and our weaknesses into strengths, just as He did for His beloved prophet Moses.
