Key Words and Meanings:

  • Yarāka (يَرَاكَ): He sees you — denoting Allah's perfect, encompassing sight that observes all things at all times, without any veil or limitation.
  • Hīna taqūmu (حِينَ تَقُومُ): When you stand up — referring specifically to the Prophet's ﷺ standing for prayer, particularly the night prayer (tahajjud), as indicated by the context of the preceding verses.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a profound declaration of Allah's intimate awareness of His beloved Prophet ﷺ. Allah tells us that He is the One who sees His servant the moment he rises from his bed in the depths of the night to stand in prayer before Him. This is not merely a statement of observation — it is a statement of honor, care, and divine attention.

When you stand for prayer — whether alone in the darkness of the night, when no human eye can see you, or in congregation with fellow believers — Allah sees you. He sees your intention before you even move. He sees the sincerity in your heart as you raise your hands in takbīr. He sees your humility as you bow in rukūʿ, your devotion as you prostrate in sujūd, and your patience as you sit in tashahhud. Nothing escapes His sight — not the smallest movement, not the quietest whisper of your lips, not the deepest thought in your soul.

This verse came as a divine reassurance to the Prophet ﷺ during the most difficult period of his mission in Mecca, when he faced rejection, mockery, and persecution. Allah was telling him: "I see you. I see your struggle. I see your devotion. I see every moment you spend in worship, even when the world is asleep and no one acknowledges your efforts. You are never alone, and your worship is never unnoticed."

For the believer, this verse carries a beautiful and transformative message: your prayer is witnessed by the Most High. When you stand in the stillness of the night, when no one else knows of your devotion, Allah knows. When you struggle to maintain your prayers amidst the distractions and trials of life, Allah sees. This awareness should fill your heart with tranquility and purpose — for the One who sees you is the One who rewards beyond measure, and His sight is a sign of His love and care for those who draw near to Him.

Let this verse inspire you to cherish your moments of worship, especially the night prayer, for they are moments witnessed by the King of all kings. And let it remind you that no act of devotion — however small or hidden — is ever lost in the sight of Allah, who is the All-Seeing, the All-Knowing, the Most Merciful.

And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,
