Word Meanings:
- "Fa-arsala" (Then he sent): He dispatched with haste and urgency.
- "Fi al-mada'in" (in the cities): Throughout the towns and provinces of his kingdom.
- "Hashirin" (gatherers): Those whose task was to assemble troops and summon people for mobilization.
Explanation of the Verse:
When Pharaoh learned that the Children of Israel had departed from Egypt under the leadership of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), he was seized with fury and alarm. His pride could not bear the thought that a group of enslaved people had broken free from his tyranny. So, without delay, he sent his officers and agents into every city and district of his vast dominion, commanding them to gather soldiers and able-bodied men for a massive pursuit. These "gatherers" were to rally the army, summon reinforcements, and prepare a formidable force to chase after the fleeing Israelites and bring them back—or destroy them.
This verse reveals the extent of Pharaoh's arrogance and his desperate attempt to maintain control. He treated human beings as property, refusing to let them go even when they sought nothing but freedom to worship their Lord. Yet, despite his immense power and the mobilization of his entire realm, his plans were doomed to fail, for Allah's will supersedes all human schemes.
A Call to Reflection:
How often do tyrants and oppressors think they can outrun the decree of Allah? Pharaoh gathered his might, but the sea split before Musa, and Pharaoh's entire army drowned. This is a timeless lesson: no power, no army, no worldly authority can stand against the command of the Almighty. For the believer, this story is a source of immense comfort. When you are oppressed, when you feel weak and outnumbered, remember that Allah is with the patient and the truthful. He can turn the ocean into a dry path for His servants and make the mightiest tyrant taste humiliation.
Let this verse strengthen your trust in Allah. The same Lord who saved Musa and his people is alive today, hearing your prayers and seeing your struggles. Hold fast to faith, for the end is always for the righteous.
