Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • لَجَمِيعٌ – altogether, united, assembled as one body.
  • حَاذِرُونَ – vigilant, cautious, fully prepared and on guard.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Pharaoh continues his address to his courtiers and people after Moses and the Children of Israel had departed from Egypt. He seeks to diminish the gravity of their escape by belittling the fleeing group, yet he also acknowledges their potential threat. Here, he declares: "And indeed, we are altogether vigilant and fully prepared."

The meaning is that Pharaoh asserts his forces are united, alert, and ready to confront any challenge. The word *ḥādhirūn* conveys a state of heightened awareness and military preparedness—they are not caught off guard, nor are they weak. Pharaoh is rallying his people, instilling confidence in them, and attempting to reassure them that the escape of Moses and his followers is not a cause for fear or despair. Rather, they possess the strength, numbers, and readiness to pursue and overcome them.

This statement reflects the arrogance and self-assurance of Pharaoh, who relied on his worldly power and military might. Yet, as the subsequent verses of the surah reveal, all his preparedness and boasting were of no avail against the decree of Allah, who saved Moses and his people and drowned Pharaoh and his army in the sea.

Da'wah Reflection:

This verse serves as a profound reminder for believers that true strength and security lie not in numbers, weapons, or worldly preparations alone, but in reliance upon Allah and obedience to His command. Pharaoh’s confidence in his collective power was shattered in an instant by the will of the Almighty. For the believer, this teaches us to combine legitimate means of preparation and caution in our affairs—as the Qur'an instructs—while placing our ultimate trust in Allah, the Best of Planners. When you stand firm in faith and take the necessary steps with sincerity, Allah grants you victory from where you least expect it. Let this be a source of hope and courage: no matter how powerful the forces of falsehood may appear, they are but a mirage before the might of the Creator. So hold fast to your Lord, and never let the apparent strength of others shake your certainty in His promise of support for the righteous.
