Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Anamil (الأنامل): The fingertips or the tips of the fingers.
- Al-Ghayz (الغيظ): Intense anger, rage, or fury that fills the heart.
- Bi Dhati as-Sudur (بذات الصدور): What lies hidden within the chests—the innermost secrets, intentions, and feelings of the hearts.
Explanation of the Verse:
Here is the clear evidence of your error, O believers, in loving those who harbor nothing but enmity toward you. You extend your love, kindness, and goodwill to them, yet they do not return any of that love. Instead, their hearts are filled with hatred and malice against you. You believe in all the revealed Books—the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Qur'an—while they refuse to believe in your Book, the Qur'an. So how can you love those who reject what you hold most sacred?
When they meet you, they say with their tongues, "We believe," but this is pure hypocrisy. Yet when they are alone with one another, away from your presence, their true feelings surface. They bite their fingertips in sheer rage and frustration—so intense is their anger at seeing your unity, your strength, and the honor Islam has brought you, while they are left in humiliation and disgrace.
O Prophet, say to them: "Die in your rage!" Let your anger consume you, for it will not change the reality of your loss. Allah is fully aware of what lies within every heart. He knows the secrets that you hide and the intentions you conceal, and He will surely recompense each soul according to what it has earned—whether good or evil.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear believer, this verse is a powerful reminder of the nature of those who oppose the truth. It teaches us a profound lesson: do not be deceived by sweet words and false promises. True love is that which is rooted in faith and sincerity, not in mere appearances. The hypocrites may smile at you, but their hearts burn with envy and hatred. Yet, you are commanded to remain steadfast, for your strength lies in your unity and your unwavering belief in Allah's complete revelation.
Take pride in your faith, for it is the source of your honor. When the enemies of Islam bite their fingers in anger, know that this is a sign of your success and their failure. Let their rage be a testament to the truth you carry. And remember always that Allah sees what is hidden in the deepest recesses of the heart—nothing escapes His knowledge. So purify your intentions, hold firm to your brothers and sisters in faith, and trust in Allah's promise. He is with those who are patient and sincere, and He will never let the efforts of the believers go to waste.
