Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Shahida (شَهِدَ): Declared, testified, and made known with absolute certainty.
- Qā’iman bil-qisṭ (قَائِمًا بِالْقِسْطِ): Establishing justice and fairness in all affairs—both in creation and in divine law.
- Al-‘Azīz (الْعَزِيزُ): The Almighty, the All-Powerful, Whom nothing can overcome or resist.
- Al-Ḥakīm (الْحَكِيمُ): The All-Wise, Who places everything in its perfect place in His creation, command, and legislation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah—glorified and exalted—Himself bears witness to the greatest truth that the human mind can ever grasp: that there is no deity worthy of worship except Him alone. This is not merely a statement; it is a divine testimony affirmed through the countless signs He has placed in the universe—the heavens, the earth, the alternation of night and day, and the very fabric of existence—all pointing to His unique divinity and perfect oneness.
Joining this magnificent testimony are the angels, those pure and obedient beings who never tire of glorifying their Lord, and they bear witness to the same truth. Then come the people of knowledge—the prophets and the sincere believers—who, through their understanding of revelation and their observation of creation, affirm with certainty that there is no god but Allah. They testify not only with their tongues but with their hearts and their actions, calling others to this truth and living by it.
This divine testimony is coupled with the attribute of *qisṭ*—absolute justice. Allah is the One Who establishes fairness in all things: in His creation, in His commands, and in His decree. Nothing in His kingdom is unjust, and His wisdom permeates every aspect of existence.
The verse then reaffirms: *There is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Almighty, the All-Wise.* He is *Al-‘Azīz*—the Mighty One Whose power knows no limits and Whom no force can challenge. And He is *Al-Ḥakīm*—the Wise One, Whose every command, every law, and every decree is rooted in perfect wisdom, even when our limited minds cannot fully comprehend it.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on the magnificence of this verse. The Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of all worlds, has Himself declared His own oneness—and He has called upon His angels and the people of knowledge to bear witness alongside Him. This is the most honored testimony in existence, and it is a testimony given for your sake, so that your heart may find certainty and your soul may find peace.
When Allah Himself testifies to His oneness, how can any doubt remain? When the angels affirm it, how can any uncertainty linger? When the scholars and prophets throughout history have dedicated their lives to this truth, how can we turn away?
This verse is an invitation—a loving call from your Creator to know Him, to worship Him alone, and to live in the light of His justice and wisdom. The path to true success, inner tranquility, and eternal happiness lies in accepting this testimony and making it the foundation of your life. Say with your heart and tongue: *Lā ilāha illā Allāh*—there is no god but Allah—and let this truth transform your life, for it is the key to Paradise and the source of all goodness in this world and the next.
