Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) continues his address to the Children of Israel, clarifying the true nature of his mission. He declares: "I have come to you confirming the Torah that was revealed before me." This was a crucial point, because some among the Israelites accused him of abolishing the Torah entirely. Rather, he came to affirm its core truths, its commandments, and its prophecies — especially those that foretold his coming. His message was not a rupture with the past but a continuation and fulfillment of the divine revelation.

Then he adds: "And to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you." This was a mercy and a lightening from Allah. The strict prohibitions that had been placed upon the Children of Israel — in certain foods and other matters — were partly lifted as a relief and a test of their obedience. This shows the profound wisdom of Allah: He legislates according to what each nation and era requires, and His laws are always rooted in justice and compassion. When a new prophet came with a new dispensation, it was a fresh opportunity for the people to draw closer to their Lord.

Jesus then emphasizes: "And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord." He brought clear miracles — healing the blind and the leper, and raising the dead by Allah's permission — as undeniable proofs that his message was from Allah. These signs were not magic or trickery; they were divine evidences that demanded a response.

Finally, he calls them to the essence of faith: "So fear Allah and obey me." This is the universal call of all prophets. Taqwa — God-consciousness — is the foundation: to be mindful of Allah in every action, to fulfill His commands, and to avoid what He has prohibited. And obedience to the prophet is the practical expression of that taqwa, because the prophet does not speak from his own desire but conveys what has been revealed to him from Allah.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse teaches us a beautiful lesson about the unity of the divine message. All prophets came with the same core call: to worship Allah alone, to live righteously, and to follow the guidance sent through them. Jesus (peace be upon him) was a devoted servant of Allah, a messenger of mercy, and a sign of Allah's power. He did not call people to himself, but to his Lord — the Lord of all creation.

And now, we have been blessed with the final messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), who came with the Qur'an — the last and most complete revelation. The same call echoes through the ages: "Fear Allah and obey the Messenger." This is the path to success in this life and the Hereafter. The doors of Allah's mercy are open to all who sincerely turn to Him, regardless of their past. Do not delay your return to your Lord, for He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. Embrace the truth with an open heart, and you will find peace, purpose, and eternal success.

And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel
And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.
And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me.
Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path."
But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allah?" The disciples said, "We are supporters for Allah. We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].
