Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Hamd (الْحَمْدُ): Perfect praise and gratitude, encompassing all forms of commendation for Allah's attributes and blessings.
- Al-Hakim (الْحَكِيمُ): The All-Wise, whose actions are precise, purposeful, and perfectly ordered.
- Al-Khabir (الْخَبِيرُ): The All-Aware, whose knowledge encompasses every detail of all things, hidden or apparent.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This opening verse of Surah Saba establishes the foundation of all faith: that all praise — in its most complete and perfect form — belongs to Allah alone. He is the One who owns everything in the heavens and the earth, as their Creator, Sovereign, and Manager. Every atom, every star, every creature, and every soul falls under His dominion and control. Nothing exists outside His kingdom, and nothing moves except by His will.
The verse then makes a profound declaration: praise belongs to Him in the Hereafter as well. This means that in the eternal life to come, the inhabitants of Paradise will praise Him just as the believers praise Him in this world — because His blessings and favors continue in both realms. Even the people of Hellfire will acknowledge His justice and perfection. The praise of the Hereafter is the ultimate confirmation that Allah alone deserves all thanks, forever.
Then Allah describes Himself with two magnificent attributes: Al-Hakim (the All-Wise) and Al-Khabir (the All-Aware). His wisdom means that everything He does — creating, commanding, rewarding, and punishing — is done with perfect justice and profound purpose, even if we cannot always perceive it. His awareness means that nothing escapes His knowledge: not a leaf that falls, not a secret thought in the heart, not a whisper in the dark. He knows the intentions behind every action and the circumstances surrounding every trial.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this magnificent opening. When you begin your day with "Alhamdulillah," you are aligning yourself with the very fabric of creation — for everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him. This verse invites you to recognize that your life is not random or chaotic; it is under the care of the All-Wise who knows exactly what you need, and the All-Aware who sees your struggles and your efforts.
If you are going through hardship, know that Al-Hakim has a purpose for it. If you feel alone, remember that Al-Khabir sees you and knows your heart. The One who owns everything in existence is the One who hears your prayers. So turn to Him with confidence, praise Him with sincerity, and trust that His wisdom and knowledge are far greater than your limited understanding. This is the path to true peace — the peace of knowing that you are in the hands of the Most Wise and Most Aware.
