Surah Fatir — Verse 6

• الشَّيْطَانَ (Ash-Shaytan): Satan, the accursed enemy of mankind.
• عَدُوًّا (ʿAdūwwan): An enemy — one who harbors hostility and seeks harm.
• حِزْبَهُ (Ḥizbahū): His party or followers — those who obey him and follow his path.
• السَّعِيرِ (As-Saʿīr): The blazing, fiercely burning Fire of Hell.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O mankind! Allah declares a profound and unchangeable truth: Satan is your sworn enemy — an enemy whose enmity is ancient, continuous, and relentless. He has been hostile to you since the very beginning, when he refused to honor your father Adam and vowed to mislead his descendants until the Day of Judgment. Therefore, Allah commands you: take him as an enemy! This means you must be fully aware of his plots, guard against his whispers, and never follow his footsteps. Treat him with the caution and suspicion you would show a deadly foe — because that is exactly what he is.

Satan’s ultimate goal is not merely to annoy you or distract you; his sole purpose is to drag his followers into destruction. He calls his party — those who respond to his invitations of disbelief, sin, and disobedience — toward one single destination: the blazing Fire of Hell (As-Saʿīr). He does not promise them success, happiness, or peace; rather, he lures them with fleeting pleasures and false hopes, only to lead them into eternal suffering.

So, dear believer, let this verse awaken your heart! Recognize the reality of your enemy, and arm yourself with the weapon of faith, remembrance of Allah, and adherence to His guidance. The Qur’an and the Sunnah are your protection; the more you draw closer to Allah, the further Satan retreats from you. Do not let the glitter of this worldly life deceive you, and do not let Satan’s whispers weaken your resolve. Allah has already warned you, and His warning is a mercy — so that you may be among the successful ones who escape the Fire and enter the everlasting bliss of Paradise. Take your enemy seriously, and you will find your Lord’s support and victory in every step of your journey.
