Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah draws our attention to the countless blessings He has placed within the very animals He has created for us. Beyond riding them and eating their meat, there are numerous other benefits that we often take for granted. From their wool, fur, and hair, we fashion clothing, furnishings, and countless other essentials that protect us from the elements and bring comfort to our lives. Their skins provide leather, their bones and horns serve various purposes, and their very existence brings economic value and sustenance to communities.
And from these same creatures, we receive pure, nourishing milk — a complete drink that sustains infants and adults alike, fresh from the udder without any effort on our part. This is a miracle of divine design: the transformation of grass and water into wholesome, life-giving liquid that flows effortlessly for our benefit.
After listing these immense favors, Allah poses a gentle yet powerful question: "Will they not then be grateful?" This is not merely an inquiry — it is an invitation to awaken the heart. How can we witness such generosity and remain unmoved? How can we enjoy these blessings daily and yet forget the Giver?
Gratitude (shukr) is not just a word on the lips; it is a state of the heart that recognizes the Source of all goodness, and a commitment to use those blessings in ways that please Him. When we truly appreciate what Allah has given us, our hearts naturally turn to Him in love, obedience, and sincere worship — for He alone deserves our thanks and devotion.
This verse is a beautiful reminder that every sip of milk, every piece of clothing, and every comfort we enjoy is a gift from the Most Merciful. Let us pause, reflect, and let our gratitude transform into action — praising Him with our tongues, believing in Him with our hearts, and serving Him with our limbs. For the One who provides such detailed care for our physical needs is certainly worthy of our complete spiritual devotion.
