Word Meanings:
- "Dhalla lnaha" (وَذَلَّلْنَاهَا): We subdued and made subservient.
- "Rakūbuhum" (رَكُوبُهُمْ): Their mounts — that which they ride upon.
- "Wa minhā ya'kulūn" (وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ): And from them they eat — referring to their meat and fat.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah reminds us of another profound blessing from His infinite mercy and power: He has subdued these cattle and made them submissive to us. Despite their size, strength, and wild nature, they have been tamed by Allah’s decree so that they obey us, carry our burdens, and serve our needs. From among them, some are designated as mounts — we ride them on our journeys, transport our goods upon their backs, and traverse great distances with ease. And from others, we derive nourishment — we eat their meat and benefit from their fat, sustaining our bodies and enjoying the provision Allah has placed in them for us.
This taming is not something we achieved by our own might; rather, it is a gift from the Most Merciful, who softened the hearts of these creatures and made them useful to humanity. Reflect on this: a camel, a cow, or a sheep — each one is a living miracle of submission to Allah’s command, and in turn, they are placed at our service. This is a sign for those who ponder: the One who subdued these animals for us is the same One who created us, sustains us, and will resurrect us. If He can make the mighty camel obedient to a frail human, then He is certainly capable of everything He has promised us.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear reader, when you ride an animal, or when you eat from its meat, pause for a moment and remember the One who made it all possible. This is not mere coincidence — it is a deliberate act of divine mercy. Allah did not have to make these animals useful to us; He could have made them wild and untamable. But out of His love for His servants, He subjected them to us as a means of livelihood and comfort. So let this blessing draw you closer to Him. Thank Him with your heart, praise Him with your tongue, and let your gratitude manifest in obedience to His commands. For every bite you eat and every ride you take is a reminder that Allah is the ultimate Provider and the Most Kind. And if you recognize His favors, you will find your faith growing stronger, your heart more content, and your connection to your Creator deeper than ever before. Indeed, in these simple blessings lies a profound lesson for those who reflect.
