Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Ramim" (رَمِيم): Bones that have become decayed, crumbled, and turned to dust with the passage of time.
- "Nasiya khalqahu" (وَنَسِيَ خَلْقَهُ): He forgot his own origin — how he himself was created from nothing.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse exposes the arrogance and heedlessness of a disbeliever who dared to argue with the Prophet ﷺ about the resurrection. He picked up a decayed bone, crumbled it in his hands, and scattered its dust to the wind, asking mockingly: "Who can possibly bring these bones back to life after they have rotted away?"
In his arrogance, he forgot the most obvious evidence standing right in front of him — his own existence. He forgot that he himself was once nothing, a mere drop of fluid, and that Allah brought him into being from that humble origin. The One who created him from nothing the first time is certainly able to recreate him after death. Indeed, the act of creation from nothing is far more astonishing than bringing decayed bones back to life, for the latter already has a template and prior existence.
The verse teaches us a profound lesson: when a person forgets their own beginning, they lose sight of Allah's infinite power. But when they reflect on their own creation — how they grew from a tiny drop into a fully formed human being — their hearts fill with certainty that the resurrection is not only possible but inevitable.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, look at yourself in the mirror. Look at your hands, your eyes, your heart that beats without your command. Every breath you take is a miracle. You did not create yourself, and you cannot sustain yourself for even a moment. The One who brought you into existence from nothing — can He not bring you back after death?
The disbeliever's question was not a genuine inquiry; it was a challenge born of arrogance. But the answer is written in every cell of your body, in every sunrise and sunset, in every seed that sprouts from dry earth. The same Allah who revives barren land after rain will revive the bones, no matter how decayed they become.
Do not be like the one who forgot his origin. Remember that you were nothing, and Allah gave you everything. Remember that death is not an end but a transition, and the resurrection is a promise from the Most Merciful, the All-Powerful. Let this verse strengthen your faith and fill your heart with hope: the same Power that created you will recreate you, and you will stand before your Lord to see the magnificent reward He has prepared for those who believe.
