Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Subḥāna Allāh (سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ): A declaration of Allah's absolute perfection and transcendence; glorifying Him and declaring Him free from every imperfection, deficiency, or flaw.
- ʿAmmā yaṣifūn (عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ): "From what they describe" — referring to the false attributes, claims, and descriptions that the disbelievers and polytheists ascribe to Allah, such as having a son, partners, or any human-like qualities.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse declares Allah's absolute transcendence and purity above every false description that the polytheists and disbelievers attribute to Him. They claimed that Allah has a son, that He has partners in divinity, or that angels are His daughters — all of which are utterly false and baseless claims. Allah, the Exalted, is far above and completely free from all such fabrications. He is One, Unique, Self-Sufficient, and has no equal, no partner, no offspring, and no associate in His dominion or worship. The verse is a powerful reminder that Allah's essence, attributes, and actions are beyond human comprehension and far removed from any deficiency or imperfection. He is the Creator of all things, while everything else is His creation; He is the Eternal, who was not born and does not give birth, and there is nothing whatsoever like unto Him.
A Da'wah Reflection:
How beautiful is this verse in purifying our belief and elevating our understanding of our Lord! When we say "Subḥāna Allāh," we are not merely uttering words — we are declaring our complete submission to the fact that Allah is perfect in every way, and that our minds, no matter how intelligent, can never fully grasp His magnificent nature. This verse invites us to reflect on the greatness of Allah and to protect our hearts from any thought that diminishes His majesty. It also serves as a gentle call to those who have misconceptions about Allah: come and see the pure, untainted truth of Islam — a religion that presents God as He truly is: One, Perfect, and Worthy of all praise. There is no greater peace than knowing your Lord as He introduced Himself to you — free from all falsehood, and deserving of all love and worship. Let this verse be a shield for your faith and a light for your heart, reminding you always that Allah is far above anything that the minds of His creatures might wrongly imagine about Him.
