Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Jahannam (جَهَنَّمَ): Hellfire, the deepest and most severe level of punishment.
- Yaṣlawnahā (يَصْلَوْنَهَا): They will enter it and be immersed in its heat and torment, suffering its flames from all sides.
- Al-Mihād (الْمِهَادُ): A bed, resting place, or cradle prepared for someone to lie upon.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse describes the ultimate destination of the transgressors—those who exceeded all bounds in disbelief and disobedience to Allah. Their final abode is Hellfire, where they will be cast to endure its blazing torment. The flames will engulf them completely, surrounding them from every direction, leaving no escape and no relief. The verse then declares: "How evil is that bed!"—meaning that the Hellfire itself serves as their resting place, their couch, and their cradle. What a terrible preparation for those who rejected the truth and followed their desires!
This is a stark contrast to the description of the righteous in the preceding verses, who are promised gardens of eternity with flowing rivers, companions of pure beauty, and abundant fruits. The evildoers, however, have traded eternal bliss for eternal agony. Their "bed" is not one of comfort but of scorching fire, and their "rest" is nothing but continuous punishment.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the reality of the Hereafter—a truth that every soul will inevitably face. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has warned us clearly so that we may turn back to Him before it is too late. The choice is ours: to prepare a bed of honor in Paradise through faith and righteous deeds, or to face the evil bed of Hellfire through heedlessness and sin. Let this verse awaken our hearts to the urgency of repentance and the beauty of Allah's guidance. The door of mercy is wide open—so why delay? Every moment is an opportunity to draw closer to Allah, to seek His forgiveness, and to strive for the eternal bliss that He has promised to His sincere servants. May Allah protect us all from the fire and grant us the highest ranks of Paradise.
