Surah Sad — Verse 55

Word Meanings:

• الطاغين (At-Taghine): Those who transgress beyond all bounds, exceeding the limits set by Allah through disbelief, arrogance, and sin.
• مآب (Ma'ab): A place of return or final destination; a refuge one goes back to.

Explanation of the Verse:

After describing the blissful reward prepared for the righteous — gardens of eternity, flowing rivers, and the company of the pure — Allah now turns our attention to the opposite end of the spectrum. He says: "This is so" — meaning all that has been mentioned of Paradise and its delights is indeed the truth, the final destination of the God-fearing. But then comes a stark contrast: "And indeed, for the transgressors there will be an evil place of return."

These are the ones who crossed every boundary, who rejected the signs of their Lord, who followed their desires and their pride instead of the truth. For them, the final abode is not gardens and rivers, but a fire that encompasses them from every side — a punishment that matches their arrogance, a humiliation that follows their haughtiness. What a terrible resting place, and what an evil destination!

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and ponder this contrast. The same Lord who created Paradise and its eternal bliss also created Hellfire for those who persist in transgression. He did not hide this from us — He warned us clearly, out of His perfect mercy, so that we may choose the path of safety before it is too late. The door of repentance remains open; the mercy of Allah is vast beyond measure. No matter how far you have strayed, return to Him now, and you will find Him waiting with forgiveness and love. Do not let a moment of fleeting pleasure in this world cost you an eternity of regret in the next. Choose wisely, for the destination is near, and the journey is short.
