Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- عِبَادَكَ (Your servants): Those who worship Allah sincerely and devote themselves to Him.
- الْمُخْلَصِينَ (the chosen/purified ones): Those whom Allah has purified and protected from Satan's influence, making them exclusively devoted to His worship. The word carries the meaning of being singled out for Allah's special care and protection.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is the concluding part of Iblis's (Satan's) oath, where he declares his grand rebellion against Allah's command. After being expelled from Paradise for refusing to prostrate to Adam, Iblis—driven by arrogance and envy—swore by Allah's might and glory that he would mislead all of humanity from the straight path. However, he made an exception, acknowledging that there are servants of Allah whom he cannot touch.
These are the مُخلَصين (the purified ones)—those whom Allah has chosen, protected, and purified from sin and error. They are the sincere believers whose hearts are firmly anchored in faith, whose intentions are purely for Allah, and whose actions are guided by divine light. Iblis admits his helplessness before them because their protection comes directly from Allah Himself, not from their own strength. They are the prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs, and the righteous—those who have attained the highest ranks of sincerity and devotion.
This exception is not a concession from Iblis but a recognition of Allah's absolute power. Even in his rebellion, Iblis acknowledges that Allah's will prevails and that His chosen servants are beyond his reach. The verse teaches us that true salvation lies in sincere devotion to Allah, which places a believer under His divine protection, making them immune to Satan's whispers and schemes.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear believer, this verse carries a profound and hopeful message for every one of us. Satan himself—your greatest enemy—has admitted that there are people he cannot mislead. These are not angels or superhumans; they are human beings like you and me who chose to purify their faith and dedicate their lives to Allah. The door is open for you to join their ranks. Allah's protection is not limited to prophets alone; it extends to every sincere servant who seeks His pleasure. When you purify your intention, strengthen your connection with the Quran, and strive to obey Allah in every aspect of your life, you place yourself under His divine shield. Satan's power is real, but Allah's protection is infinitely greater. So, do not despair of Allah's mercy, and do not underestimate the power of sincere faith. Every step you take toward Allah is a step away from Satan's grasp. Strive to be among the مُخلَصين, and you will find a protection that no force in the universe can penetrate. This is the promise of Allah, and His promise is true.
