Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Most Merciful, poses a gentle yet profound question to those who hesitate in faith: "What harm would it do them if they believed in Allah and the Last Day, and spent from what Allah has provided them?"
This is a rhetorical question that stirs the conscience. The answer is clear: there is absolutely no harm in it—rather, it is the source of all good. Believing in Allah means trusting in His wisdom, His promises, and His justice. Believing in the Last Day means living with the awareness that every deed, big or small, will be accounted for. And spending from what Allah has given is not a loss—it is an investment that multiplies in this world through blessings and in the Hereafter through immense rewards.
The verse gently rebukes those who hold back from faith and charity, as if to say: "What do you have to lose?" Faith brings peace to the heart, purpose to life, and hope for the eternal bliss of Paradise. Spending in the way of Allah purifies the soul, strengthens the bonds of community, and earns the love of the Creator.
And Allah knows all about them—their intentions, their struggles, and their deeds. Nothing is hidden from Him. He will reward the believers with His mercy and Paradise, and He will hold the negligent to account with perfect justice.
This verse is an invitation to every soul that hesitates: come to faith, come to giving, and you will find that you have lost nothing but gained everything. The door of Allah's mercy is wide open, and He is ever watchful over His servants, ready to reward them for even the smallest act of goodness.
