Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Āyātinā (Our signs): The revelations, proofs, miracles, and clear evidences sent down by Allah.
  • Nuṣlīhim (We will make them enter/burn): We will cause them to enter the Fire and endure its scorching heat.
  • Naḍijat (Becomes well-done/ripe): When their skins are completely burnt and cooked by the fire.
  • Baddalnāhum (We will replace for them): We will give them new skins in place of the burnt ones.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Exalted, declares with absolute certainty that those who reject His signs — the clear verses of His Book, the undeniable proofs of His Oneness, and the miracles of His messengers — will inevitably face a severe consequence. They will be cast into a blazing Fire that surrounds them completely, and the torment there is not a one-time event. Rather, whenever their skins are fully burnt and cooked by the intense heat, Allah will replace them with fresh, new skins so that the punishment continues without interruption. This renewal of skin ensures that they taste the full, unrelenting agony of the Fire — for if the nerves were destroyed, the pain would cease, but Allah in His justice renews what is needed for the sensation of torment to persist forever.

This verse strikes awe into the hearts of believers and serves as a powerful deterrent. It reminds us that Allah is Al-ʿAzīz (the Almighty, the All-Powerful) — nothing can overcome Him, no force can resist His will, and His vengeance upon the disbelievers is absolute. He is also Al-Ḥakīm (the All-Wise) — His punishment is not arbitrary or unjust; it perfectly matches His infinite wisdom and justice. He does not wrong anyone, and every decree He issues — whether in this life or the Hereafter — is precisely measured and profoundly wise.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is not merely a warning — it is an invitation. Allah, in His mercy, has told us about this reality *before* it happens so that we may turn back to Him. The fact that you are reading this now is a sign of His care for you. He does not wish to punish anyone; rather, He desires your success and salvation. The same Allah who threatens the disbelievers with this severe punishment is the One who opens the doors of repentance wide for His servants. He says: *"Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins."* (Az-Zumar 39:53).

So let this verse move you — not to despair, but to action. Embrace the signs of Allah, which are all around you: the Qur'an, the universe, your own soul. These are lights guiding you to the truth. The choice is yours: will you be among those who reject and face this endless torment, or among those who believe, do righteous deeds, and enter gardens of eternal bliss? The wise person is the one who takes heed before it is too late, for when the Fire is seen with one's own eyes, no excuse will be accepted. Today, the door of mercy is open — knock on it with sincerity, and you will find your Lord most Forgiving, most Merciful.

📜 Verse 54-58 — An-Nisa

Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them of His bounty? But we had already given the family of Abraham the Scripture and wisdom and conferred upon them a great kingdom.
And some among them believed in it, and some among them were averse to it. And sufficient is Hell as a blaze.
Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise.
But those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide forever. For them therein are purified spouses, and We will admit them to deepening shade.
Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.
