Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Āyātihi (آيَاتِهِ): His signs and proofs — the magnificent, awe-inspiring evidences of Allah’s power, wisdom, and oneness scattered throughout the universe and within ourselves.
- Rizqan (رِزْقًا): Provision or sustenance — here specifically referring to the rain that descends from the sky, which becomes the very source of life, food, and nourishment for all creation.
- Yatadhakkar (يَتَذَكَّرُ): To take heed, reflect, and draw lessons — to let the heart awaken from heedlessness and grasp the deeper meaning behind what the eyes see.
- Yunīb (يُنِيبُ): One who turns back to Allah in sincere repentance, submission, and devotion — returning to Him with a pure and humble heart, abandoning disobedience and shirk.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah — in His infinite mercy and boundless grace — is the One who unveils His magnificent signs before your very eyes, O humanity. Look around you: the heavens raised without pillars, the earth spread out as a resting place, the mountains firm as stakes, the sun and moon moving in precise orbits, the winds carrying clouds, and the oceans teeming with life. And look within yourselves: the intricate design of your own bodies, the beating of your hearts, the wonder of your intellect, and the soul that you cannot fully comprehend. All of these are living proofs — undeniable testimonies — of His perfect power, His absolute wisdom, and His unique oneness. No deity deserves your worship except Him alone.
And alongside these ever-present signs, He showers upon you His tangible mercy: He sends down rain from the sky — a provision that revives dead lands, brings forth fruits and grains, waters your flocks, and sustains your very existence. Every morsel of food you eat, every drop of water you drink, every breath you take is a gift from His endless bounty. He did not create you and leave you neglected; rather, He continuously sustains you, providing for your needs from above and from the earth beneath your feet.
Yet — and here lies the profound truth — none truly reflects upon these signs and draws the right lesson except the one who turns back to Allah with a repentant, sincere heart. The heedless one sees the rain but forgets the Giver. The arrogant one sees the wonders of creation but refuses to acknowledge the Creator. But the one whose heart is alive, who recognizes his dependence upon his Lord, who abandons sin and shirk, and who returns to Allah in humility — that person looks at a single leaf and sees the majesty of its Maker. That person hears the thunder and remembers Allah’s power. That person witnesses the rain and praises the Provider.
Dear reader, Allah has not hidden His signs from you — He has placed them everywhere, in every direction you turn. The question is: will your heart be among those that turn back to Him? The door of repentance is always open, and the moment you incline your heart toward your Lord, the entire universe becomes a book of guidance for you. Every sunrise becomes a reminder of His mercy, every rain drop a proof of His care. So return to Him today — with sincerity, with humility, and with love — and you will find that He was always near, waiting for you to open your eyes and your heart.
