Key Words and Phrases:

  • تُجْزَىٰ (tujzā): Will be recompensed or fully repaid.
  • بِمَا كَسَبَتْ (bimā kasabat): For what it has earned (i.e., its deeds in worldly life).
  • لَا ظُلْمَ (lā ẓulm): No injustice whatsoever.
  • سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ (sarīʿu al-ḥisāb): Swift in reckoning; His accounting is immediate and all-encompassing.

Explanation of the Verse:

On that Day—the Day of Resurrection—every single soul will be fully recompensed for what it earned in the worldly life. If one did good, they will be rewarded with good; if one did evil, they will face the consequence of that evil. There will be no injustice whatsoever: no one’s good deeds will be diminished, and no one’s sins will be increased beyond what they deserve. The Judge on that Day is Allah, the All-Just, who is never mistaken and never unfair.

Allah then reassures us that He is swift in reckoning. His knowledge encompasses all of creation, and He does not need time or effort to account for billions of souls. He will judge them all at once, in a single moment, without one accounting distracting Him from another. So do not think that Day is far away—it is near, and His justice is certain.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse fills the believer’s heart with both hope and awe. Hope, because Allah promises perfect justice: no good deed, however small, will be lost. Awe, because every action is recorded and will be faced. This is the ultimate motivation to live righteously—not out of fear alone, but out of love for a Lord who is perfectly fair and swift to settle all accounts. Let this verse inspire you to race toward good deeds, to repent from wrongs, and to trust that Allah’s justice will always prevail, even if it seems delayed in this world. Indeed, the Hereafter is the true court of justice, and Allah is the best of judges.

[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne; He places the inspiration of His command upon whom He wills of His servants to warn of the Day of Meeting.
The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allah. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah, the One, the Prevailing.
This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today! Indeed, Allah is swift in account.
And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.
He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal.
