Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Dooni Allah" (مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ): meaning besides Allah, i.e., the false deities and idols they worshipped.
- "Dalloo" (ضَلُّوا): meaning they have vanished, disappeared, or gone astray from us.
- "Nad'oo" (نَدْعُو): meaning we called upon or worshipped.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when the disbelievers are cast into the Fire, they will be rebuked with a humiliating question: "Where are those gods you used to worship besides Allah? Call upon them now—let them come to your rescue and save you from this torment, if they truly have any power!"
At that moment, the truth will become crystal clear to them, and they will answer in despair: "They have vanished from us—we do not see them anywhere, and they cannot help us in the least." Then, in a moment of bitter self-realization, they will admit: "In fact, we were not calling upon anything real before. We were worshipping mere illusions—things that had no power to benefit or harm us. We were chasing nothing but falsehood."
This is how Allah leads the disbelievers astray—just as He left these people to wander in darkness during their worldly life, persisting in their idolatry until they reached this catastrophic end, so too does He abandon every obstinate disbeliever who rejects the truth, leaving them to their own ruin.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul. The idols of this world—whether they are statues of stone, wealth, status, or fleeting desires—will all abandon us at the moment we need them most. On that Day, no false god, no worldly power, and no human authority will be able to intercede or save. Only the One True God, Allah, who created us and sustains us, holds the power to help.
Dear reader, why wait for that Day of regret to realize the truth? The disbelievers in this verse admitted their error when it was too late. But you, right now, have the precious opportunity to turn to Allah, to worship Him alone, and to build a relationship with the One who never abandons His servants. The Qur'an is not a book of stories—it is a living guide, a mercy from your Lord, calling you to success in this life and the next. Do not let your heart be like theirs, attached to what will vanish. Anchor your soul in the remembrance of Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, and you will find a peace that no idol can ever provide.
