Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

And indeed we
To our Lord
Surely returning (to Him), turning back after our death

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse comes as the second part of a beautiful supplication that a believer is guided to say when riding upon a means of transport — whether an animal, a ship, a car, or any modern conveyance. After acknowledging Allah’s favor by saying, “Glory be to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could not have done it on our own,” the believer adds: “And indeed, to our Lord we are surely returning.”

This means that after our death, we will all be turned back to Allah alone — no partner with Him — to be held accountable for our deeds and to receive His just recompense. The word *munqalibūn* carries the sense of being turned back, redirected, and brought to a final destination. It is not merely a return in space, but a return in time and existence — from this temporary world to the eternal Hereafter.

This verse teaches us a profound lesson: every journey we take in this life, whether short or long, should remind us of the ultimate journey — the journey back to our Creator. Just as we mount a vehicle and trust that it will carry us safely to our destination, we must also trust that Allah will carry us through this life to our final meeting with Him. The One who gave us the ability to ride and travel is the same One who will bring us back to Himself.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

Dear reader, reflect on this beautiful connection: when you board a plane, a train, or even a car, you are experiencing a small glimpse of Allah’s power and mercy. He made these means subservient to you — a gift you could never have achieved on your own. But the verse does not stop at gratitude; it immediately directs your heart to the greater reality — that this life itself is a journey, and your final destination is your Lord.

This is not a message of fear, but of hope and love. The One who created you, who provided for you, who made the earth and sky subservient to you — that same Lord is waiting to receive you with His mercy and justice. So let every ride you take be a reminder of your return to Him. Let every journey strengthen your connection to the One who will never abandon you. And let this verse be a source of comfort: no matter how far you travel in this world, your true home is with your Lord, and to Him you will surely return.

📜 Verse 12-16 — Az-Zukhruf

And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount.
That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it.
And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return."
But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful.
Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons?
