Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Ja‘alahā": He made it or established it.
  • "Kalimatan bāqiyah": An enduring word or a lasting statement.
  • "Fī ‘aqibihi": Among his descendants or offspring.
  • "La‘allahum yarji‘ūn": So that they might return (to the truth).

Tafsir (Explanation):

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did not merely leave behind a fleeting message or a temporary call. Rather, he established the word of Tawhid — the declaration that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah (Lā ilāha illa Allah) — as a permanent and enduring legacy among his descendants. He implanted this pure monotheistic creed deep within his progeny, so that there would always remain among them those who uphold the Oneness of Allah, free from any association of partners with Him.

This was not just a historical statement; it was a living heritage. Ibrahim’s heartfelt hope was that his offspring, generation after generation, would hold fast to this word, and that those among them who strayed into disbelief or sin would find their way back to their Lord through sincere repentance. The verse also carries a profound lesson for the people of Makkah, who were descendants of Ibrahim through his son Isma‘il: their forefather had bequeathed to them this very call to pure monotheism, so why would they abandon the legacy of their own father and turn to idols?

This enduring word is a mercy from Allah, for it means that the door of return is never closed. No matter how far one strays, the seed of Tawhid planted by Ibrahim remains in the heart of his descendants — and by extension, in the heart of every believer who follows his path. It is a reminder that faith is not a fleeting moment but a continuous journey, and that Allah, in His infinite mercy, keeps the light of guidance alive among His servants so that they may always find their way back to Him.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, reflect on this: Ibrahim, the friend of Allah, did not only pray for himself — he built a legacy for his children and for all who would come after him. This teaches us that true faith is not selfish; it seeks the guidance of others. It also teaches us that no matter how many generations pass, the word of truth remains alive. If you find yourself distant from Allah, remember that the door of repentance is open, and the same word that Ibrahim left behind is still calling you today. Answer that call, return to your Lord, and become part of that enduring legacy of Tawhid.

📜 Verse 26-30 — Az-Zukhruf

And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship
Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me."
And he made it a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it].
However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger.
But when the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and indeed we are, concerning it, disbelievers."
