Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Fatarani (فَطَرَنِي): Created me, brought me into existence from nothing, and instilled in me my innate nature (fitrah).
  • Sayahdin (سَيَهْدِينِ): He will guide me, show me the right path, and lead me to what is beneficial for me in this life and the Hereafter.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declares his complete disassociation from everything that his people worshipped besides Allah. After rejecting all false deities—whether idols, celestial bodies, or anything else—he makes an exception for the One true God: the One who created him and gave him his very existence. Ibrahim does not merely say "I worship Him," but he grounds his devotion in the profound reality of creation: the One who brought him into being from nothing is the only One worthy of worship.

Then he expresses his unwavering trust in Allah's guidance: "He will surely guide me." This is not a statement of uncertainty but a declaration of firm conviction. Ibrahim knows that the One who created him will not abandon him. The same Allah who fashioned him in the womb of his mother will continue to guide him through the journey of life—showing him the straight path, teaching him wisdom, and leading him to what is good and beneficial in both worlds.

This statement reflects the essence of true monotheism (Tawheed): worship is due only to the Creator, and guidance comes only from Him. The verse beautifully links creation (fatr) with guidance (hidayah)—the One who initiates our existence is the One who perfects our journey through His divine direction.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this profound statement of the father of the prophets. Ibrahim did not inherit his faith from his family—he was born into a society of idol worshippers, yet he used his God-given intellect to arrive at the truth. He looked at the heavens and the earth, reflected upon creation, and concluded that there must be a Creator—One who is above all imperfections, One who deserves all worship.

This verse invites you to ask yourself: Who created you? Who gave you your eyes, your ears, your heart, your very soul? Who sustains you every moment of your existence? The answer is clear: it is Allah alone. And if He created you and sustains you, then He is the One who deserves your love, your obedience, and your worship.

Moreover, Ibrahim's confidence in Allah's guidance is a lesson for us all. When you sincerely turn to Allah, He will not leave you astray. He will guide you through the darkness of ignorance to the light of faith, through the confusion of doubt to the certainty of conviction. Just as He guided His beloved friend Ibrahim, He will guide you—if you seek Him with a sincere heart.

So, make this du'a your own: "O Allah, the One who created me, guide me to Your straight path, and keep me firm upon it until I meet You." Indeed, the One who created you will never let you down when you call upon Him with sincerity and trust.

📜 Verse 25-29 — Az-Zukhruf

So we took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship
Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me."
And he made it a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it].
However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger.
