Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Zuru’ (زُرُوعٍ): Cultivated fields and plantations yielding abundant harvests.
- Maqam Karim (مَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ): A noble and honorable station or dwelling — referring to splendid residences, majestic thrones, and dignified gatherings befitting royalty.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah continues to describe what the people of Pharaoh left behind when they were destroyed and drowned in the sea. After mentioning gardens and flowing springs in the previous verse, He now adds: "And cultivated fields, and noble stations." These were vast agricultural lands that produced plentiful crops, and magnificent palaces and elevated seats of honor where Pharaoh and his chiefs would hold court in luxury and pride. The phrase "noble station" (maqam karim) refers to beautiful, elevated places of residence and assembly — the kind of majestic settings that only kings and rulers enjoy. They took all of this for granted, living in arrogance and heedlessness, never thanking Allah for these blessings. Yet when they rejected the truth brought by Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and persisted in tyranny, Allah stripped them of everything in an instant. Their gardens, their harvests, their palaces, and their thrones — all were left behind as they were swallowed by the sea, and their wealth could not save them from the punishment of their Lord.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this scene. Pharaoh and his people possessed everything that the human heart often craves — abundant provisions, beautiful homes, and positions of honor. Yet none of these worldly treasures availed them when Allah’s decree arrived. How many people today are deceived by their wealth, their careers, their beautiful houses, and their social status, believing that these will grant them security? This verse teaches us a profound lesson: worldly blessings are a test, not a guarantee of Allah’s pleasure. The truly successful person is the one who uses these blessings to draw closer to Allah, to help others, and to live in obedience to His commands. Let this reminder soften your heart and inspire you to be grateful for what you have — and to never let the fleeting comforts of this world distract you from preparing for the eternal life to come. For the gardens and noble stations of Paradise are far greater and everlasting, prepared for those who believe and do righteous deeds.
