Surah Ad-Dukhan — Verse 27

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the vivid description of what Pharaoh and his people left behind when they were destroyed by drowning. Allah asks us to reflect: How many gardens with lush, flourishing trees, flowing springs of water, cultivated fields, splendid residences, and a life of sheer comfort and delight did they abandon? They were utterly engrossed in their pleasures—living as if they would never face an end. They took pride in their wealth, indulged in their desires, and forgot the One who granted them all of it. Yet, in a single moment, all of that was taken from them, and they were left with nothing but ruin and the punishment of the Hereafter.

This scene is a powerful lesson for every soul that becomes attached to the fleeting joys of this world. The very comforts that made them arrogant became the evidence against them. They did not use their blessings to thank Allah or to help others; instead, they used them to oppress and transgress. So, Allah stripped it all away in an instant, showing that worldly luxury is not a sign of Allah's pleasure—it can be a test and a means of gradual ruin.

Dear reader, pause and look at your own life. The food you eat, the home you live in, the health you enjoy—these are all gifts from Allah. Do not let them make you forgetful. Let them remind you of His generosity and your need to remain grateful. The people of Pharaoh had all of this and more, yet their end was destruction. Let their story be a warning: true success is not in how much you possess, but in how well you obey the One who gave you everything. Turn to Allah before the moment comes when you, too, will leave it all behind—and nothing will remain with you except what you sent forward for your eternal life.
