Word Meanings:

  • Qiyām (قِيَامٍ): Rising up, standing, or escaping; here it refers to their inability to rise or flee when the punishment descended upon them.
  • Muntasirīn (مُنتَصِرِينَ): Those who are victorious, aided, or able to defend themselves against an attacker.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the punishment of Allah—whether it was the mighty blast, the storm of stones, or the overwhelming destruction—struck these disbelieving nations, they were utterly incapacitated. They could not rise to their feet to flee, nor could they find any means of escape from the torment that engulfed them. Their strength, their wealth, their alliances—all proved futile in that moment. They had no power to defend themselves, no ability to repel what had befallen them, and no one to come to their aid. The very forces they once relied upon—their armies, their fortifications, their pride—crumbled before the decree of their Lord. They were left helpless, humiliated, and utterly destroyed, with no victory and no rescue.

This scene is a profound reminder that no matter how powerful a person or a nation may become in this world, all power and might belong solely to Allah. When His command arrives, no one can stand against it, and no one can protect another from His justice. The fate of these nations stands as a timeless lesson: those who reject the truth and persist in arrogance will ultimately face a reality where their strength means nothing, and their supposed protectors abandon them.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, look at the fate of those who came before us—nations with towering buildings, advanced civilizations, and immense military power. Where are they now? Their might did not save them, and their achievements did not shield them from the consequences of their defiance. This should awaken in every heart a sense of humility before Allah, the Almighty, who is the only true source of strength and victory. Do not be deceived by the temporary power of this world, for it is but a fleeting shadow. Turn to Allah in submission, seek His mercy, and hold firmly to His guidance, so that you may be among those who are truly victorious—both in this life and in the Hereafter. The door of repentance is open, and His mercy is vast; do not delay, for no one knows when the decree will come.

📜 Verse 43-47 — Adh-Dhariyat

And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."
But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.
And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.
And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
