Surah At-Tur — Verse 35

• أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ – "Or were they created from nothing?" i.e., without a Creator who brought them into existence?
• أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ – "Or are they the creators?" i.e., did they create themselves?

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse poses a profound and inescapable logical challenge to those who deny their Creator. It asks: Were these disbelievers created without any creator at all? Or did they create themselves? Both possibilities are utterly impossible and absurd. Nothing in this universe comes into being without a cause, and no creature can bring itself into existence, for it did not exist before to do so.

The very existence of every human being—with their intricate bodies, their minds, their souls, and the breathtaking complexity of life itself—is living proof that there is a Creator, a Designer, a Sustainer. When you reflect on the miracle of your own existence—from a tiny drop to a fully formed human being—how can you attribute this to chance or to nothing at all?

This verse is a call to pure reason and fitrah (innate human nature). It strips away all excuses and leaves the heart face-to-face with an undeniable truth: there must be a Creator, and that Creator is Allah alone. Since He alone created you, He alone deserves your worship, your gratitude, and your devotion.

So reflect, dear reader: you did not create yourself, and you were not created by accident. You were fashioned by the Most Merciful, the Most Wise. Why then would you turn away from the One who gave you life, hearing, sight, and intellect? Why would you worship anything other than Him? The answer is clear—your Lord, your Creator, is the only One worthy of your worship. Let this realization bring you closer to Him, and let your heart find peace in submitting to the One who knows you better than you know yourself.
