Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Nahshuruhum (نَحْشُرُهُمْ): We gather/assemble them — referring to the resurrection when all of creation is brought together.
- Ashraku (أَشْرَكُوا): Those who associated partners with Allah in worship.
- Shuraka'ukum (شُرَكَاؤُكُم): Your partners — the false deities, idols, or beings they worshipped alongside Allah.
- Taz'umun (تَزْعُمُونَ): You used to claim/assert — implying a false and baseless claim, not a reality.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that awesome Day of Resurrection, when every soul from the first to the last is gathered before its Lord — no one missing, no one forgotten — Allah will address those who committed the gravest sin of all: associating partners with Him in worship. With a tone of stern rebuke and humiliating exposure, He will ask them: "Where are those partners of yours whom you used to claim were deities worthy of worship? Where are the idols, the saints, the stars, the angels you called upon beside Me? Where are those you hoped would intercede for you and save you from this day?"
This question is not asked because Allah needs information — He knows all things. Rather, it is asked to shame them publicly, to strip away every false hope, and to demonstrate to all creation the utter futility of their former beliefs. At that moment, the reality will crash upon them: those "partners" have vanished, cannot help themselves, let alone help others, and the very ones they worshipped will disown them. The question hangs in the air, and there is no answer — only silence, regret, and the bitter taste of a life spent in delusion.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a wake-up call from the Most Merciful, sent to us now — before that Day arrives — so that we may never be among those who face this humiliating question. How fortunate are those who purify their hearts and worship Allah alone! They will not be asked this question, for they never took partners besides Him. Instead, they will be welcomed with honor and joy.
Let this verse move you to examine your heart: Is there anything you love, fear, or obey more than Allah? Do you turn to creation for what only the Creator can provide? The doors of repentance are wide open right now. Allah calls you to come back to Him — to worship Him alone, to place your hope in Him alone, and to fear Him alone. Do not wait until the Day when excuses are cut off and the question is asked. Respond to your Lord today, and you will be among those who answer with joy on that Day: "We worshipped You alone, and we had no partners besides You."
