Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- If'tara (افترى): To invent a lie, fabricate falsehood, or attribute something untrue to someone.
- Ayaatihi (بآياته): His signs, proofs, miracles, and revelations—specifically referring to the Quran and the divine evidence sent with the prophets.
- Yuflih (يفلح): To succeed, prosper, attain one's goals, or achieve salvation and ultimate victory.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse poses a powerful rhetorical question that resonates through the ages: "Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or denies His signs?" The answer is unequivocal—no one.
The verse highlights two grave forms of transgression. The first is fabricating lies against Allah, which includes attributing partners to Him in worship (shirk), claiming He has a son or a consort, or inventing false doctrines and attributing them to Him. The second is rejecting His signs—the clear proofs, miracles, and revelations, especially the Quran—that He sent to guide humanity through His messengers.
These two sins represent the pinnacle of injustice because they strike at the very heart of truth: they distort the image of the Creator and reject His guidance. Such actions are not merely mistakes; they are a deliberate turning away from the light of fitrah (natural disposition) and the clear evidence that surrounds us.
The verse concludes with a firm and decisive promise: "Indeed, the wrongdoers will never succeed." This is not a mere statement of hope but a divine guarantee. Those who persist in this oppression—fabricating lies against Allah or denying His signs—will not attain their goals in this world, nor will they achieve salvation in the Hereafter, unless they repent before death. Their schemes may seem to flourish temporarily, but ultimate success, true peace, and eternal felicity are forever beyond their reach.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and consider the immense mercy of Allah. He has sent His signs and messengers to guide you, not to burden you. The greatest injustice is to reject this gift or to distort it. Yet, the door of repentance is always open. If you find yourself in the shadows of doubt or error, know that Allah's mercy is vaster than your sins. Return to Him, embrace His signs, and you will be among those who truly succeed—in this life and the next. Do not let pride or stubbornness deprive you of the eternal bliss that awaits the believers. The choice is yours, and the reward is unimaginable.
