Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Daabir" (دَابِرُ): The root or the last trace; in this context, it means the very last of them, so that nothing remains—no one is left behind.
- "Quti'a" (قُطِعَ): Was cut off, meaning completely severed and eradicated.
- "Al-Hamd" (الْحَمْدُ): All praise, gratitude, and perfect thanks, encompassing all forms of commendation.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse concludes the story of the wicked nations who rejected the messengers of Allah. After the punishment descended upon them, Allah states: "So the last remnant of the people who wronged was cut off" — meaning they were utterly destroyed, root and branch, so that not a single one of them remained. Their homes, their power, their legacy—all were wiped away as a direct consequence of their oppression, which was their disbelief in Allah and their denial of His messengers.
Then Allah follows this with a profound declaration: "And all praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds." This praise is not merely an expression of gratitude; it is a statement of divine justice and wisdom. Allah is praised because He upheld the truth, supported His righteous servants, and brought down the tyrants. The destruction of the oppressors is itself a mercy to humanity, for it cleanses the earth of corruption and serves as a warning to all who would follow in their footsteps.
This verse beautifully illustrates that Allah's justice is inseparable from His mercy. When He destroys the oppressors, He is protecting the innocent and establishing balance in the world. The praise here is comprehensive—it acknowledges that Allah alone, the Creator and Sustainer of all existence, deserves all thanks for His perfect management of creation, His wisdom in rewarding the patient believers, and His power in punishing the arrogant wrongdoers.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, ponder deeply on this verse. It carries a timeless lesson: no matter how powerful or numerous the oppressors may seem, their end is sealed by the will of Allah. The history of nations is filled with tyrants who believed they were invincible, yet the decree of Allah overtook them in ways they never imagined. This should fill the heart of every believer with hope and certainty—that Allah never abandons His righteous servants, and that justice, even if delayed, will always prevail.
At the same time, let this verse be a warning to every soul: oppression, in all its forms—whether it is injustice toward others, arrogance before Allah, or rejection of His guidance—leads to destruction. But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance. Before the punishment comes, He invites you to turn back to Him. Embrace Islam with a sincere heart, submit to your Lord, and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next. The praise of Allah is not only for His justice but also for His mercy that gives every sinner a chance to return before it is too late.
So, hasten to the path of righteousness. Join the ranks of those who praise their Lord, who stand for truth, and who will be among the victorious in this world and the Hereafter. Indeed, the best of all endings is for the righteous, and the ultimate praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
